This week's cat bite was slower than last week. The cats are moving to deeper water so boats are a better bet. Target the channels using our topo map by Jim Putney for the best spots. The bass continue to be difficult.

Best Cat Spots: Eagle, Cloister and Hermit Coves.

Best Cat Bait: Chicken livers, shrimp, hot dogs or nightcrawlers. Use scent liberally.

Best Bass Spots: 25 ft on all the points.

Best Bass Lures /bait: # 13 Rapalas, Zara Spooks and d/s 4" morning dawn worms.

Water Temp.: 78 degrees on surface.

Notables: Fri. and Sat., John Visser, Jake Alirez, Melody Noble, Lemon Grove, 15 cats, largest 8-4, chicken livers and Secret 7, Cloister Cove.

Prognosis: The cats are definitely moving deeper. Boaters and those bankies who can cast a country mile will have the best success. There are only a few weeks left for night fishing. Our last weekend is Labor Day weekend. We will be open Labor Day from 5:30 AM to 8:30 PM. Lake Jennings Campground now has WiFi at every campsite.

The Lake Jennings Free Fishing University will be teaching catfishing every Sunday at 1pm. For more info, you can call Hugh Marx at (619)3901300 or visit www.lakejennings.org

This angler spent a few hours trying early on Thursday to make the topwater bite happen. 1 bass the same size as the # 18 Rapala. Still no bass chasing shad on the surface. The shad schools are metered at 15' to 25' off the points and are huge...... Read More
