Hello from your Lake Jennings! Trout fishing continues to be strong but the fish have moved to deeper water off of Cactus Patch and the fishing float. Boaters are having better success than bankies. There are several strategies for bass. Throwing 5" Bass Assasins or floating Rapalas against the bank, drop-shotting reapers or 4 to 6" worms in 25 to 30 ft. off the points or dragging shiners up and down the water column. The advantage of that is you might very well stick a cat. Speaking of cats working the backs of coves in the flooded brush or underneath the cormorant trees with mackerel will put cats into the hot grease.

Best Trout Spots: Cactus Patch and fishing float.

Best Trout Bait: Rainbow Power Bait or inflated crawlers fished with a water float.

Best Trout Lures: Orange #5 Rapalas.

Best Catfish Spots: Hermit Cove and the cormorant trees.

Best Catfish Lures/Bait: Bring mackerel, and fish shallow.

Best Bass Spots: Close to shore on the points.

Best Bass Lures/Bait: Shiners, 4" and 6" cinnamon blue vein drop-shotted worms. Bass Assassins' and #9 Rapalas.

Notables: No fish over 3 lbs. or limits under 1 hour were reported.

Prognosis: This is always a good time to catch trout. The trick is to ask us when you get here. This is also true for bass and cats. We know where you are most likely to find them. Current water temperature: 69 degrees.

Current Schedule: We'll be open this Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 5:45 a.m. ??? 8:15 p.m.

Kids Fish Free Event: Helix Water District's Kids Fish Free Day is Saturday, May 12th. Capt. Ron Baker is Master of Ceremonies. Three bicycles and some top of the line rods and reels will be awarded for the best kids fishing stories. Hamilton Meats is doing their world famous BBQ'd hot dogs, hamburgers and chicken. The first 600 kids registered will receive tackle and prizes. Lake opens at 5:30AM. Lunch and fish stories start at 11:00AM. Click here for a printable flyer.

COMING SOON! It's time to get ready for Night Fishing season! Lake Jennings is open late starting June 1st.

The bass spawn is just about over. There is a Bass Assassin / crankbait bite on the guardian males all along the shore. Lots of small cats being taken all over the lake wherever there is brush or rocks. Best trout spots: Eagle Point...... Read More
