The next few weeks should be the best time of the year to fish Lake Wohlford. The Trout fishing is very good, the Bass are just moving in to the shallows, and the Crappie bite is the best it has been in 15 years.

Nice-sized Crappie have just moved in to the shallows and are being found off Bass Point and at the West Buoy Line. Small golden shiners and small finger jigs work best to attract them. Tony O'Neal of San Diego caught a 2#6 Crappie on a Yellow/White jig with a Rainbow Power worm at Bass Point. A group of 6 brought in a stringer of 72 Crappie taken on Crappie Jigs at Bass Point, and Vince Aghalo had a limit of 25 Crappie. Take advantage of the best Crappie action we have seen in many years at Wohlford!

Trout fishing has been very good with some nice limits of rainbows being weighed in. The best Trout baits have been lime power bait and inflated night crawlers. The Trout of the week goes to Roy Johnson of Pauma Valley, who landed a 7#9 Rainbow Trout caught on Yellow Power bait off Senior Shoreline. David Gonzalez of Valley Center landed a 3#15 Trout on a Night Crawler off Senior Shoreline and Bud Leavenworth of San Diego caught a 2#13 Trout on a Night Crawler off Senior Shoreline.

The Bass have recently moved in to shallow waters to spawn and many smaller males are biting well. We expect a lot of large females, full of eggs, to be taken during the next 2 months. Isaac Ballew of Valley Center caught and released a 3#7 Bass on a Jig at Willow Cove. Swim bait lures and crawdads have been the best baits for Bass.

Bob Green of Valley Center caught a 2#10 Catfish on a Night Crawler in Boat Dock Cove and Eric Martineau of Valley Center caught a 1#6 Catfish on a Night Crawler at Willow Cove.
