The next few weeks should be the best time of the year to fish Lake Wohlford. The Trout fishing is very good, the Bass are just moving into the shallows, and even the Crappie have started to bite.
Trout fishing has been very good with many limits of rainbows being weighed in. The best Trout baits have been lime power bait and inflated night crawlers. The most successful Trout areas have been along the North Shoreline, east of Willow Cove, and in Boat Dock Cove.
The Bass have recently moved into shallow waters to spawn and many smaller males are biting feverishly. We expect a lot of large females, full of eggs, to be taken during the next 2 months. Richard Fridell of Escondido caught and released a 5#8 and a 4# 10 Bass on crawdads at the South Shore Rockpile. Ryan Roersma of Escondido landed a 3#3 Bass on a shiner at the South Shore Rockpile. Swim bait lures and crawdads have been the best baits for Bass.
Bob Gree of Valley Center caught a 1#12 Catfish on a night crawler in Boat Dock Cove and John Tester of Vista caught a 1#8 Catfish on a night crawler at Murphy's Rock.
Nice-sized Crappie have also moved into the shallows and are being found off Bass Point and at the West Buoy Line. Live golden shiners and small finger jigs work best to attract them.
