The next few weeks should be the best time of the year to fish Lake Wohlford. The
Trout fishing is excellent, the Bass are just moving in to the shallows, and even the
Crappie have started to bite.

Trout fishing has been excellent with many limits of rainbows being weighed in. The
best Trout baits have been green power bait and inflated night crawlers. The most
successful Trout areas have been along the North Shoreline, east of Willow Cove,
and in Boat Dock Cove. The top Trout of the week goes to James Santana of Vista,
who landed a 9#10 Rainbow Trout that hit Fireballs in Willow Cove. Rodd Dickey
of Oceanside landed an 8#15 Trout while working Rainbow Power Bait in Boat
Dock Cove.

The Bass have recently moved in to shallow waters to spawn and many smaller
males are biting feverishly. We expect a lot of large females, full of eggs, to be
taken during the next 2 months. Tim Ballew of Valley Center caught and released a
6#15 Bass using a Rapala Lure at the South Shore Rockpile, Mike Kostial of
Oceanside caught and released a 6#1 Bass on a Swim Bait lure near Crappie Rock,
Lester Albury of San Marcos caught and released a 5#13 Bass on a Swim Bait lure in
Boat Dock Cove. Justin Peterson of Valley Center caught and released a 4#9 Bass on
a Swim Bait lure in Boat Dock Cove. Swim bait lures sound like the appropriate bait
for Bass now!

Nice-sized Crappie have also moved in to the shallows and are being found off Bass
Point and at the West Buoy Line. Live shiners and small finger jigs are working
well to attract them.
