Water Level: Low level; private water crafts are currently banned

In order to protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels, there is still a temporary ban on private water craft and private equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment now includes private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contact the water.

Catfish can be found throughout the lake, though most are on the small side. The best baits for Catfish are cut mackerel or chicken liver and either buoy line is a good location. Stop by the Ranger Station to receive a (dough bait) recipe that works great on both Catfish and Carp.

The Bass fishing has been decent. Aramis Medina of Escondido caught a 3#15 Bass off the South Shore Rockpile on a roboworm. Typically the most productive baits for Bass have been either live bait, in the form of crawdads or golden shiners, or dark colored plastics. The Bass most often gravitate towards the large rock piles. Crappie can be found chasing the shad near rocky outcroppings and submerged willow trees.

Each month, Whopper Contest winners in four categories are awarded a free fishing and boating permit. For further information on the contest or fishing conditions, please contact the Ranger Station at (760) 839-4346.
