In order to protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels, there is still a temporary ban on private water craft and equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment includes private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors and other equipment that contacts the water.

Catfish are being caught west of Senior Shoreline. Felix Lopez of Escondido landed a 2#7 Channel Cat that struck dough bait off Senior Shoreline. The best baits for Catfish are cut mackerel or chicken liver and either buoy line is a good location. Stop by the Ranger Station to receive a (dough bait) recipe that works great on Catfish.

The Bass can be found in the early mornings and late afternoons chasing shad near the surface. Crankbait has been proving especially productive. The Bass typically are found lingering around the large rock piles. Mike Kostial of Oceanside caught and released the largest Bass taken this past week. Mike's 6#11 largemouth attacked a plastic worm off Senior Shoreline.

A yet-to-be-identified pathogen has been killing Wohlford Carp. Even though Carp pathogens are not considered a threat to humans, as a precautionary measure we advise that no Wohlford Carp be consumed until the pathogen is confirmed by the lab. Other species have not been affected.

Each month Whopper Contest winners in 4 categories are awarded a free fishing and boating permit. For further information on the contest or fishing conditions, please contact the Ranger Station at (760) 839-4346.
