Park hours: 6:00 A.M. - 7:30 P.M. Open seven days a week
Dock closes: 7:00 P.M.
Last Plant: 1,500 lbs of Rainbow Trout Wednesday April 27th.
Water temperature: At surface 68.18 f., 10.98 D.O. @ 15' 64.04 f., 2.15 D.O.
Water level: Low level, private water craft are currently banned.
In order to protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels, there is still a temporary ban on private water craft and equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment includes private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors and other equipment that contacts the water.
Lake Wohlford is offering $20 all day motorboats* to seniors on Tuesdays and to active military on the first and third Saturdays of each month.
Wednesdays trout plant was the last of the season. Trout fishing has improved but is better late than early. Oakvale Cove continues to be a hot spot as is the area just west of Senior Shoreline. The best baits have been powerbait and/or powerworms, greens or yellows are the most popular colors, or inflated nightcrawlers.
The bass are still biting. Arthur Musqorian of Oceanside caught and released a 6.75# bass on Saturday in Boat Dock Cove on crankbait. The same day Justin Kennedy caught a 7.60# fish on a senko worm along Senior Shoreline. With lots of shad present shad raps are a good bet as are crawdads or any dark colored plastic worm.
Double digit crappie are still being caught primarily in the early mornings, when they can be found feeding on shad. Randy Danio of ValleyCenter weighed in a 2.05 crappie caught near the South Shore Rock Pile. The best areas have been Boat Dock Cove and Bass Point. Crappie are most frequently caught using small jigs or live golden shiners.
Each month Whopper Contest winners in 4 categories are awarded a free fishing and boating permit. For further information on the contest or fishing conditions, please contact the Ranger Station at (760) 839-4346.
