Trout fishing has slowed a bit, but should pick up with Wednesdays plant. Oakvale Cove has been the best spot for trout. Rick Frisby weighed in the largest trout of the past week at 4.10#s it was caught on a nightcrawler on Senior Shoreline. The best baits have been powerbait and/or powerworms, greens or yellows are the most popular colors, or inflated nightcrawlers.

The bass are still biting. Joey Seale of San Marcos caught and released a 7.75# bass on a plastic worm near Crappie Rock while Khamsouk Sophabmixay caught a 5.50# bass in Boat Dock Cove on a nightcrawler. The bass are being caught primarily on crawdads or dark colored plastics.

The crappie bite is much improved and double digits of crappie are being reported regularly in the mornings. The best areas have been Boat Dock Cove and Bass Point. Crappie are most frequently caught using small jigs or live golden shiners.

Each month Whopper Contest winners in 4 categories are awarded a free fishing and boating permit. For further information on the contest or fishing conditions, please contact the Ranger Station at (760) 839-4346.
