Lake Wohlford Road will likely remain closed through April 11th while corrective measures are made to the hillside. Lake Wohlford can be accessed by preceding north on Valley Center Road making a right onto Woods Valley Road and another right when you reach North Lake Wohlford Road.

In order to protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels, there is still a temporary ban on private water craft and equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment includes private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors and other equipment that contacts the water.

LakeWohlford is offering $20 all day motorboats* to seniors on Tuesdays and to active military on the first and third Saturdays of each month.

The trout bite has been good with the best spots for trout being Oakvale Cove and just west of Senior Shoreline. The best baits have been powerbait and/or powerworms, greens or yellows are the most popular colors, or inflated nightcrawlers.

The bass have been biting, particularly early in the week. Ryan Krawczyk of San Marcos caught and released an 8.25# bass Sunday on a plastic worm at bass Point. Sam Zepeds of ValleyCenter caught and released a 6.50# bass on Sunday and a 9.15# bass on Monday both on plastic worms near Senior Shoreline. Norman Justin Doyal of Escondido caught a 6.65# bass on Tuesday in Boat Dock Cove on a spoon jig. The best baits for bass recently have been dark colored plastics.

Some Crappie were being reported early in the week, as well. Sunday Cory Su of San Diego weighed in a 1.95# Crappie caught on a crappie jig at Bass Point and that same day Michele Azada of Gardena weighed in a 2.45# Crappie caught at the west buoys on a gold Kastmaster lure. Crappie respond well to finger jigs or live golden shiners.

Each month Whopper Contest winners in 4 categories are awarded a free fishing and boating permit. For further information on the contest or fishing conditions, please contact the Ranger Station at (760) 839-4346.
