Catfishing picked up this weekend. A few limits came out but it was mostly 1's 2's and 3's. Mackerel has been ok but the "go to " bait has been chicken livers. All the other fishing also picked up but you cannot call it anything other than OK. Some bass anglers were blaming the poor fishing on the earthquakes. Yet slowly dragging tubes in 25 ft. water had one angler jumping for joy. So much for the earthquake theory. No topwater action where the bass are chasing shad. Just the occasional fishing hanging on the bank.

Best Cat Spots: Eagle, Cloister and Hermit Coves.

Best Cat Bait: Chicken livers or nightcrawlers. Use scent liberally

Best Bass Spots: 25 ft on all the points.

Best Bass Lures /bait: mudsuckers and d/s 4" morning dawn worms.

Water Temp.: 76 degrees on surface.

Notables: He did it again. Fri., & Sat., John Visser and 2 different friends each day, Lemon Grove, 15 cats, Hermit Cove Buoyline chicken livers and Secret Seven catfish dip.

Prognosis: This week's forecast is for some hot weather. I think that the fishing will act accordingly. There is a reason why bass, sunfish and cats are called " warmwater fish." It won't hurt with the delivery of another 1000 lbs. of Rock and Fish Ranch's finest channel cats.

There will be catfishing lessons every Sunday, 1PM at The Lake Jennings Free Fishing University. For more info: Hugh Marx (619) 390-1300 or visit www.lakejennings.org . We are open on July 4. Niight Fishing is allowed every Friday and Saturday until labor Day. Lake Jennings Campground now has WiFi at every campsite.

The catfishing fireworks this weekend fizzled. For that matter so did all the other fishing. Seemingly the bass, red ears and cats left the lake and were on holiday. We don't think that dynamite would have helped. Some bass anglers are blaming the poor fishing on the earthquakes. Best Cat Spots: Eagle, Cloister and Hermit Coves. Best Cat Bait: Chicken livers or nightcrawlers. Use scent liberally Best Bass Spots:...... Read More

Hello from Your Lake Jennings: If this report seems familiar, it is. A bad back prohibits me from sitting to long. There really have not been any changes except for 2 notables whose names should be familiar. They have a pattern that continues to produce for them. Catfishing is the best bet. Fish the brush and the backs of the Coves with chicken livers. Finally some topwater action for the bass very early...... Read More
