Hello from your Lake Jennings! The cats continue to prowl the shallows and chicken livers are the best bait, so bring your own. They are in the backs of the coves. Bass are still deep in the 15 to 25 ft. range even at night. No surface activity to speak of. Trout are being caught accidently by bass trollers. Overall, the catch is about one per person no matter what you are fishing for.

Best Trout Spots: Middle of the lake.
Best Trout Lures/Bait: Drifted crawlers.
Best Catfish Spots: Siesta, Half Moon, and Hermit Coves.
Best Catfish Bait: Chicken livers or nightcrawlers. Use scent liberally.
Best Bass Spots: 25 ft on all the points.
Best Bass Lures/Bait: Mudsuckers and d/s 4" morning dawn worms.

Notables: Some people just figure it out. John Visser, Lemon Grove, and grandson Jake Alirez have caught double cat limits for the last five weeks even before we started stocking and night fishing. They fish close to Eagle Cove but won't divulge the secret spot or the baits that they use. The fish run 1 to 3 lbs.

Prognosis: The early season night fishing pattern for channel cats is always fish shallow in the brush and the backs of the coves. We will prime the pump again with 1000 lbs. of Rock and Fish Ranch cats this week.

Water Temperature: 67 degrees on the surface.

Current Schedule: Lake Jennings will be open this Friday from 5:00 p.m. - 12:00 a.m., Saturday from 5:30 a.m. - 12:00 a.m., and Sunday from 5:30 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. Night fishing continues every Friday and Saturday thru Labor Day. Lake Jennings Fishing University will hold a fishing class this Sunday at 1:00 p.m. The classes concentrate on what is working best. This week's class will talk about catfishing. Most importantly, the classes are free. Ranger Hugh will be the professor

Best Catfish Spots: The bird trees. Best Catfish Bait: Mackerel or nightcrawlers. Use scent liberally Best Bass Spots: 25 ft on all the points. Best...... Read More
