In order to protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels, there is still a temporary ban on private water craft and private equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment now includes private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contact the water.

Trout fishing was good early in the week with some nice-sized limits of rainbows being caught. Willow Cove and Boat Dock Cove have had the best Trout action and nightcrawlers have been the most consistent bait. Victor Sarabia of Escondido weighed in a stringer of five Trout totaling 13#10 that he caught on green power bait in Willow Cove. Other notable Trout include: Dennis Wiese's 4#9, and Frank Achille's 4#2.

The water is warming and the male Bass are moving into the shallows. Travis Smith of Escondido weighed in a 5#12 Bass caught on chatter bait at the west Buoy line. Four new Bass-type rental boats are now available at Lake Wohlford. They sport 40# thrust trolling motors, dual swivel seats, and a live well. They rent for $50 for the entire day.

Crappie have begun to appear. Alvin Stephens of Riverside had the largest Crappie of the week, weighing in at 2#1. He caught it on a rosy shiner in Boat Dock Cove. Rodney Hendricks of Fountain Valley came in a close second with a 2#0 Crappie caught on a minnow at the South Shore Rockpile. Anton Newman of Escondido caught a stringer of five Crappie weighing a total of 8#0 on Crappie jigs. Channel Catfish are found most often at either end of the lake in the shallows of Willow Cove or at the West Buoy Line. They respond well to cut mackerel or chicken liver. Sean Bell of Valley Center had the larger of two Catfish caught in Willow Cove this week. His 5#3 Channel Cat was caught on swimbait and later released.
