In order to protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels, there is still a temporary ban on private water craft and private equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment now includes private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contact the water.

Trout fishing has been good with some nice-sized rainbows being caught. Willow Cove and Boat Dock Cove have had the best Trout action and nightcrawlers have been the most consistent bait. Victor Sarabia of Valley Center weighed in the largest Trout of the past week at 5#1, caught on green power bait in Willow Cove. Bob Blackburn of Escondido landed a 5#0 Trout in Boat Dock Cove using a nightcrawler for bait.

The water is warming and the male Bass are moving into the shallows. Scott Osborne of Valley Center caught a 5#0 Bass at Bass point using a red and black plastic worm. Jeremy Pierce of Oceanside caught and released a 4#6 Bass he caught on a swimming sunfish lure in Willow Cove. Rod Kiar of Escondido caught and released a 4#0 Bass caught on a swimbait lure in Boat Dock Cove. Four new Bass type rental boats are now available at Lake Wohlford. They sport 40# thrust trolling motors, dual swivel seats, and a live well. They rent for $50 for the entire day. With the arrival of spring, the Crappie have begun to stir as well. Cliff Chambers of Escondido weighed in a 1#12 Black Crappie caught on a green crappie jig west of Senior Shoreline.
