Launch Conditions: PRIVATE WATER CRAFTS ARE CURRENTLY BANNED
In order to protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels, there is still a temporary ban on private water craft and private equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment now includes private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contact the water.
Bass conditions remain productive. Anton Newman of Escondido caught and released a 7#6 Bass using a Plastic Worm off Lusardi Point. Swim bait lures, plastic worms, and live golden shiners are working best for the Bass now. Channel Catfish have been hitting cut mackerel, chicken liver, night crawlers, and shrimp in the channel at the east end of Wohlford. Marcos Valle of Lemon Grove landed a 7#8 Catfish using a Dough Ball off Senior Shoreline.
The Crappie have moved into deeper water, but a few of the scrappy pan fish are still coming in. Robert Slaughter of Lake Elsinore caught a 1#9 Crappie in Boat Dock Cove on a Golden Shiner. Small golden shiners and finger jigs have been the preferred baits. Small-sized Bluegill are hitting red worms in Oakvale Cove. Carp action has picked up and dough balls are the preferred bait. Each month, Whopper Contest winners in four categories are awarded a free fishing and boating permit. For further information on the contest or fishing conditions, please contact the Ranger Station at (760) 839-4346.
