Launch Conditions: PRIVATE WATER CRAFTS ARE CURRENTLY BANNED
In order to protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels, there is still a temporary ban on private water craft and private equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment now includes private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contact the water.
Bass conditions remain ideal. Chris O'Dell of Escondido caught and released a 7#13 Bass on a Plastic Worm off Senior Shoreline. Charlie Lott of Oceanside landed a 7#0 Bass that hit a Robo Worm off Twin Peaks and Scott Osborne caught a 3#7 Bass on Swim Bait off the South Shore Rockpile. Swim bait lures, plastic worms, and live golden shiners are working best for the Bass now.
Smaller-sized Channel Catfish have been hitting cut mackerel, chicken liver,
nightcrawlers, and shrimp in the channel at the east end of Wohlford. The Crappie have moved into deeper water and a few of the scrappy pan fish are coming in. Small golden shiners and finger jigs have been the preferred baits. Small- sized Bluegill are hitting red worms in Oakvale Cove. Carp action has picked up and dough balls are the preferred bait. To view fish photos, visit our web site at www.wohlfordlake.com.
Each month, Whopper Contest winners in four categories are awarded a free fishing and boating permit. For further information on the contest or fishing conditions, please contact the Ranger Station at (760) 839-4346.
