Lake Jennings Weekly Catch and Release
May 12, 2008

Hello from Lake Jennings! We are anxiously awaiting the start of night fishing this Friday. Lake opens at 5PM and you can fish until midnight. Saturday you can fish from 5:30 AM until Midnight. Sunday we are open from 5:30 AM until 8:30 PM. The trout are still biting if you are fishing from a boat along the buoy line. Red ears are being caught using mealworms or 1 1???2" chunks of crawlers but you have to move continuously until you locate them in 5 to 15 ft. of water. Bass are chasing shad subsurface.

Best Trout Spots: The boat dock, fishing float and buoy line triangle.

Best Trout Lures/Bait: Silver Kastmasters and firetiger Rapalas for trolling and nightcrawlers drifted about 25 to 30 feet down.

Best Catfish Spots: First choice is the bird trees and then anywhere there is brush in the water.

Best Catfish Bait: Nightcrawlers are really working well or mackerel. Use scent liberally.

Best Bass Spots: At night on the bank in 5 ft. of water in brush and under trees. Daylight finds them in 15 to 30 ft. off the points chasing shad.

Best Bass Lures/Bait: Bass Assassins, drop-shotting 4" shad colored worms. Swim baits.

Notables: No fish over 3 lbs reported or limits in 30 minutes.

Prognosis: We kick off our night fishing this Friday with 1,000 lbs. of Fish Producers catfish. The key as always is to fish the shallow coves close to brush. If you are casting out 50 ft., you are too far out.

Water Temperature: 65-68 degrees.

New Night Fishing Schedule: We will be open Friday from 5:00 p.m. ??? 11:45 p.m., Saturday from 5:30 a.m. ??? 11:45 p.m. and Sunday from 5:30 a.m. ??? 8:30 p.m.

Discounted Sunday Boat Rental: We have created a twilight special for our motorboats. After 4:00PM on Sundays, motorboats can be rented for $20.00. That gives you over 4 hours of primetime fishing.

Lake Jennings Fishing University will hold a fishing class this Sunday at 1:00 p.m. The classes concentrate on what is working best. This week's class will talk about fishing cats. Most importantly, the classes are FREE! Ranger Hugh will be the professor.

Hello from your Lake Jennings! No changes in the trout department. Trolling continues to be good for trout between the boat dock and the fishing float. The Cactus Patch and over in Sentry Cove are producing trout from a boat using Power Bait or Gulp. The bass are in transition. The majority of the bass have moved back away from shore into 15 to 25 ft. of water. Swim baits have been effective on those fish. Drop-shotting worms in the...... Read More
