Launch Conditions: PRIVATE WATER CRAFTS ARE CURRENTLY BANNED
In order to protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels, there is still a temporary ban on private water craft and private equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment now includes boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, etc.
Trout action has been phenomenal with beautiful limits of large Rainbow Trout taken by anglers being the norm! Trout conditions are currently ideal at Lake Wohlford. Tommy Johnson of Escondido landed the largest Trout taken so far this season by pulling in an 11#8 Rainbow Trout that struck Green Power Bait off Senior Shoreline! Tong Nguyen of Escondido landed both an 11#6 Rainbow and a 10#5 Rainbow Trout that both hit Rainbow Power Bait in Boat Dock Cove. Matt Herrera of Vista caught an 11#0 and a 7#0 Rainbow Trout that bit Chartreuse Power Bait in Boat Dock Cove. Edward Heinrichson of Oceanside caught three Rainbows having a total weight of 26#0 using night crawlers in Willow Cove. Other notable Trout catches include: 14-year-old Ryan Krawczyk with an 8#8 and an 8#3, Fred Wolfrom with a 7#6, Bob Blackburn with a 6#6, Kelly Huddleston with a 6#2, and John Genaway with a 6#2 Rainbow. Top baits are night crawlers, power bait (green & rainbow), power worms (white), and shiny spinners. Best Trout action is likely to be along Senior Shoreline and Boat Dock Cove in the absence of easterly winds.
Catfish action has been good with some nice-sized whisker fish coming in. The best baits have been cut mackerel, chicken liver, and shrimp.
The Bass are out in deeper water now and Bass action has been slow. Senko worms, Swim bait lures, and plastic worms have been working best.
Each month, Whopper Contest winners in four categories are awarded a free fishing and boating permit. For further information on the contest or fishing conditions, please contact the Ranger Station at (760) 839-4346.
