Bass fishing is best in the early morning when the shad are in close to shore. Shad raps, crawdads, and dark colored plastics are all good baits. Bass can be found near rock piles especially in the morning and late afternoons.

Crappie are being caught almost exclusively in the early mornings. Crappie are most often caught using small jigs or live golden shiners.

The first of four catfish plants is scheduled for July 1st. Catfish are becoming easier to find throughout the lake and prefer cut mackerel or chicken liver. Kevin Klopp of Carlsbad weighed in a 6.95# catfish he caught in Oakvale Cove on Mackerel. Stop by the ranger station for a doughbait recipe that works well on both catfish and carp.
