The trout season is just about over. Warmer water temperatures have pushed the few trout that are left into the deeper areas of the lake. The best baits have been powerbait and/or powerworms, or inflated nightcrawlers.

Bass fishing remains good especially in the early morning when the shad are in close to shore. Sam Bush of Cardiff caught and released a 7.50# bass on a senko lure on senior shoreline Friday afternoon. Shad raps, crawdads, and dark colored plastics are all good baits. Bass can be found near rock piles especially in the morning and late afternoons.

Crappie are being caught almost exclusively in the early mornings. Tyler Ennis of Escondido caught a 1.15# Crappie on a threadfin shad in Boat Dock Cove. Crappie are most often caught using small jigs or live golden shiners.

The first of four catfish plants is scheduled for July 1st. Catfish are becoming easier to find throughout the lake and prefer cut mackerel or chicken liver. Stop by the ranger station for a doughbait recipe that works well on both catfish and carp.
