In order to protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels, there is still a temporary ban on private water craft and equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment includes private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors and other equipment that contacts the water. Lake Wohlford is offering $20 all day motorboats to active military on the first and third Saturdays of each month. This rate applies to regular motor boat rentals, no Bass Boats, and no discounted  ? day rate. Catfish fishing has been decent, especially from a boat near the East Buoy Line and in Oakvale Cove. Edward Sehoebel of Borrego Springs caught a 7.90# catfish in Oakvale Cove on chicken liver. Cut mackerel and chicken liver are two of the best baits. Some Bass are being caught in the morning and Crappie are being caught in small numbers as well.

You will now have a one stop shop for your 2011 Fishing and Hunting Licenses and Tags. The Department of Fish and Game will be installing their Automated License Data System (ALDS) at the Lake Wohlford Café. The ALDS is capable of printing licenses on the spot and eliminates the need for pre-printed license inventory. With the ALDS the Lake Wohlford Café will be able to sell all recreational items that were previously only available at Department of Fish and Game locations. You can expect to see this machine by January 2011. Each month Whopper Contest winners in 4 categories are awarded a free fishing and boating permit. For further information on the contest or fishing conditions, please contact the Ranger Station at (760) 839-4346. To view our current fish photos, visit our website at http://www.wohlfordlake.com
