In order to protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels, there is still a temporary ban on private water craft and equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment includes private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors and other equipment that contacts the water.

Beginning in April Lake Wohlford will offer $20 all day motorboats* to seniors on Tuesdays, and this same discount rate will be offered to active military on the first and third Saturdays of each month. *This rate applies only to regular motor boat rentals, not Bass Boats, and there is no discounted  ? day rate.

Trout fishing was very good this past week. The action has been particularly lively in Willow Cove and Senior Shoreline. Trout are being caught primarily on green powerbait or inflated nightcrawlers.

The Bass fishing continues to get better. Now that water temperature has reached 60 degrees many of the smaller males have moved in tight to the shore and are preparing their nests for the arrival of the heavier females. The top baits have been plastics and crankbaits.

Black Crappie are being caught near Bass Point. They are most often caught using finger jigs or live golden shiners. Bluegill are biting fair as well.

Every kind of fish in the lake is biting right now and Catfish are no exception Abraham Villa of San Diego snagged himself a 4.35# Catfish at the West Buoy Line using shrimp. Lake Wohlford cats love chicken liver or cut mackerel and either buoy line is a good location.

Each month Whopper Contest winners in 4 categories are awarded a free fishing and boating permit. For further information on the contest or fishing conditions, please contact the Ranger Station at (760) 839-4346.
