The trout remain active particularly in Oakvale Cove and in Willow Cove. Aiden Gonzalez of Vista has the biggest trout of the new year so far at 7.20#s. Mr. Gonzalez’s fish was caught using a Thomas Buoyant lure west of Senior Shoreline. Mousetails or mini-jigs have been the hot tickets.

Limits of catfish are still being taken at the west buoy line. Anthony Pellerin of Escondido caught & released a 24.80# catfish Thursday using cut mackerel at the west buoys. Lake Wohlford cats are most frequently caught using chicken liver, shrimp, or cut mackerel. Stop by the ranger station for a dough-bait recipe that works well on both catfish and carp.

Small to medium sized bass can be found around structure. With the re-introduction of trout to the menu it’s an excellent time to try a big swimbait in hopes of landing a lunker bass.

Crappie are being reported sporadically in small numbers. Most are suspended deep right now. Crappie prefer the cover of shade and are most often present close to shore pre-dawn. They are typically caught using mini-jigs or live golden shiners.

Limits of catfish are still being reported. Lake Wohlford cats are most frequently caught using chicken liver, shrimp,...... Read More
