Hello from your Lake Jennings! Our last night of cat fishing was just hit or miss.
Some boaters fishing deep hammered them and others could not buy a bite. Bankies
had even less success. There was some brief top water action in Sentry Cove this
morning so maybe the bass bite is going to heat up.
Best Catfish Spots: The dam buoyline and Hermit Cove bouyline.
Best Catfish Bait: Mackerel and night crawlers. Use scent liberally.
Best Bass Spots: They are suspended all over the lake at 30 to 50 ft. of water.
Best Bass Lures/Bait: Swimming a jig or lead core trolling are the best bets for targeting those fish.
Notables: Fri., Dan Heiser, El Cajon, continues to rack up better than average cats, 6-0 channel, buoyline,
mackerel. Mike Franklin, Harbinson Canyon, 5-0 largemouth, trolling a worm, "bubba style." (Carolina rig
with 6' leader dragging the bottom.)
Prognosis: Remember that our night fishing is done until next season. Our trout season will begin as soon
as the water temp is below 74 degrees. Historically that is the 3rd week of October. Mt. Lassen has a new
rainbow trout called the "Sierra Bow." It has tasty pink flesh and based upon testing is more catchable and
acrobatic. In the meantime we'll expect the cat bite to improve based upon past history. Whether the bass
get their act together or not is a head scratcher.
Water Temperature: 80 degrees on the surface.
Current Schedule: We'll be open this Friday from 6:00 a.m. - 7:45p.m., Saturday from 6:00 a.m. -
7:45p.m., Sunday from 6:00 a.m. - 7:45 p.m.
Lake Jennings Fishing University will hold a fishing class this Sunday at 1:00 p.m. The classes concentrate on what is working best. This week's class will talk about cat fishing. Most importantly, the classes are FREE! Ranger Hugh will be the professor.

Lake JenningsHello from Your Lake Jennings: It was brutally hot this weekend. The catfish bite was similarly hot ONLY if you fished from a boat in deep water. It was so good that dockhand Matt Ryan used pizza crust leftover from a staff meeting to take 5 cats in the 1 to 2lb range. The bass are suspended. A swimming jig in 50 ft. of water is about your only hope. On the rare occasion...... Read More
