Opening day for trout has finally arrived and they are catching rainbows throughout the lake. As of 9:00a.m. the leader is David King of Rancho Penasquitos with a 6.00# caught using powerbait in Boat Dock Cove.  Please remember due to their fragile nature all trout caught must be taken regardless of size. The top baits for trout are inflated nightcrawlers or powerbait (green or yellow).

Fall is a good time for catching large catfish just ask Taylor Oshinski of Valley Center who caught & released a 59.80# Blue Catfish on Sunday. Mr. Oshinski's catfish, the third largest on record here at the lake, was caught using cut mackerel near Oakvale Cove. Lake Wohlford cats are most frequently caught using chicken liver, shrimp, or cut mackerel.

Small to medium sized bass can be found around structure. With the re-introduction of trout to the menu it’s an excellent time to dust off those swimbaits in hopes of landing a big bass.

Crappie are being caught in small numbers. Crappie prefer the cover of shade and are most often caught using finger jigs or live golden shiners.

We have learned a thing or two in all that time, and that is why...... Read More

On Sunday Elliot Berquist of Escondido further cemented his spot atop the leader-board by beating his own lake record catfish with a 63.60# blue catfish which he caught and released using cut- bonita at the west buoy line. Note: Due to a clerical error an earlier report listed the Catfish’s weight as four pounds heavier than it actually was. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused. Lake Wohlford cats are most frequently caught using chicken liver, shrimp, or cut mackerel. Mostly small to medium sized bass being...... Read More
