Permit and Boat Rentals are sold via a fully automated machine located at the Ranger Station. At present, we do not sell fishing licenses, bait, or tackle, so anglers must acquire these essential items elsewhere prior to their visit. All day motor boats are discounted to $20 for active military every Saturday.

Due to the threat of Quagga mussels, there is a ban on private water craft and equipment. Restricted equipment includes; private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contacts the water.

During the autumn months we are closed weekdays. The park will re-open for weekday fishing and general recreation in mid-December following the first trout plant, as always, we remain open on the weekends.

Catfish are being caught throughout the lake. Lake Wohlford cats like cut mackerel or chicken liver.

Bass can be found around submerged rock piles or in, and amongst, the reeds. Bass respond well to shad raps, frogs, and dark colored plastics.

Crappie are being caught in Boat Dock Cove. Crappie prefer the cover of shade and are most often caught using finger jigs or live golden shiners. They bite best in the predawn hours.

Each month Whopper Contest winners in four categories are awarded a free fishing and boating permit. For information on the contest or fishing conditions, please contact the Ranger Station at (760) 839-4346.
