Lake Jennings Weekly Catch and Release

April 21, 2008

Hello from Lake Jennings! Trolling continues to be good for trout between the boat dock and the fishing float. The Cactus Patch and a new spot over in Sentry Cove are producing trout from a boat using Power Bait or Gulp. The bass are in transition. More fish have moved back away from shore into 15 to 25 ft. of water. Swim baits have been effective on those fish. Drop-shotting worms in the brush are still nailing guardian males. Some redears are spawning but the main run has yet to occur. Channel cats are now being caught under the bird trees.

Best Trout Spots: The boat dock, fishing float and buoy line triangle.

Best Trout Lures/Bait: Needlefish and Rapalas for trolling and night crawlers 6' under a bobber.

Best Catfish Spots: The floating boathouse and the bird trees.

Best Catfish Bait: Bring mackerel or mackerel.

Best Bass Spots: On the bank in 5 ft. of water in brush and under trees.

Best Bass Lures/Bait: Drop-shotting 4" worms. Swim baits.

Notables: No fish over 3 lbs reported or limits in 30 minutes.

Prognosis: The hot bite for trout will continue while inventories remain high. Cats and red ears are being caught on the bank. Buzz baits drug off the bank produced some nice reaction bites from the bass.

Water Temperature: 65-68 degrees.

Current Schedule: We will be open Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 6:00 a.m. ??? 8:00 p.m.

Coming Soon: Night Fishing season begins Friday, May 16th, three weeks earlier this year!

There was a great bite on the bass until Friday and then it picked back up on Sunday. The ones being caught are mostly males. The big girls are hiding. Some fry are being protected by males. The red ears and cats will be moving into the shallows soon. Best Trout Spots: Cactus Patch and...... Read More

Hello from Lake Jennings! We love rain. It is our lifeblood but it really puts a damper on southern California angler enthusiasm. Saturday was beautiful, and the trout cooperated, but the bass had lockjaw. The hot spots for trout were mid-Eagle Cove, the concrete steps in Hermit Cove, Siesta Cove and Shadow Cove. Hint: Do you see a pattern here!!! The bass are riding a roller coaster. One day they are up and the next day they are deep. They...... Read More
