Water Level: Low
Launch Conditions: PRIVATE WATER CRAFTS ARE CURRENTLY BANNED
In order to protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels, there is still a
temporary ban on private water craft and private equipment that could have been
exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment now includes boats, canoes, kayaks, float
tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contacts the water.
Wohlford's water is cloudy since the big rains, but trout action has been fair with some
nice limits of Rainbow Trout being taken. Ron Bloom of Escondido landed the largest
Trout of the week with a 7#6 Rainbow that attacked Green Power Bait in Willow Cove.
Other notable catches were Gary Marsaal of Vista with a 6#14 Trout caught on a night
crawler in Boat Dock Cove and Edward Heinrichson of Oceanside with a 6#7 Trout that
hit Green Power Bait in Boat Dock Cove. Top Trout baits are night crawlers, power
bait (green & rainbow), power worms (white), and shiny spinners. Best Trout areas
have been in Boat Dock Cove and in Willow Cove. Light line and small hooks are a
must for Trout success. Four-pound test line or less and size #14 or smaller treble hooks
are recommended.
Catfish action is still hanging in there with the best baits being cut mackerel and chicken
liver. Mike Macleod of Escondido caught a 2#13 Catfish on a night crawler off the
South Shore Rockpile.
The Bass are out in deep water now and Bass action has been slow. Senko worms,
Swim bait lures, and Plastic worms have been working best. Brett Seiler of San Diego
landed a 3#2 Bass that struck a night crawler near Twin Peeks.
