In order to protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels, there is still a temporary ban on private water craft and equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment includes private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contacts the water.

Lake Wohlford is offering $20 all day motorboats to seniors on Tuesdays and Thursdays and to active military on the first and third Saturdays of each month. Half day Bass boats are available weekdays for 35$ each.

Catfish can be found at the east end of the lake near the mouth of the canal. Lake Wohlford cats prefer chicken liver or cut mackerel. Stop by the ranger station for a dough-bait recipe that works great on both Catfish and Carp.

Crappie are being caught in small numbers, primarily early in the morning. Crappie prefer the cover of rocks or submerged willows and respond well to finger-jigs or live golden shiners.

The Largemouth Bass bite is improving with several medium sized Bass weighed in over the past week. Mike Bonds of Escondido caught and released a 6.15# Bass last Saturday using crank-bait at the West Buoy Line. Jim Johnson of Valley Center caught and released a 6.70# Bass he landed Sunday in Boat Dock Cove using a senko worm. Finally, Joey Mayerchik of Valley Center caught and released a 6.95# Bass Monday on a plastic worm west of Senior Shoreline. The Bass fishing is best in the early mornings and late afternoons. The Bass can be found lingering around structure and are susceptible to crawdads and dark colored plastics.
