BASS:
Jason Wilson, pictured caught a nice 4 to 5 pounder out of lake 4 on a swimbait.
Michael Martinez, Photo #1 landed a huge 7 lb. 8 oz. Bass out of lake 5 on a nightcrawler.
The Bass bite has been good in all lakes. Reminder all Bass are catch and release.
BLUEGILL: First time freshwater fisherman Keith, Photo #2 had a great time catching Bluegill out of lake 5.
Bluegill are plentiful in all 7 lakes.
CATFISH:
This past Thursday Santee Lakes hosted another successful nightfishing event. 170 anglers participated. Several limits were taken out of lakes 3 and 4. The next nightfishing event is scheduled for August 8th. Come fish lakes 1 through 4 till 11:30 pm.
Cory Binion, Photo #3 from Spring Valley caught a 2 lb. 8 oz. Catfish out of lake 3 on mackerel.
14,000 lbs. of Catfish has been stock in the lakes so far this summer. The next stock is scheduled for This Friday, August 2nd.
Recipe of the Week:
Fried Bluegill Parmesan
1 pound of Bluegill fillets
16 ounces crushed Saltine Crackers
1/2 teaspoon Parsley flakes
1/2 teaspoon sweet Basil
1/4 teaspoon Oregano
1/8 teaspoon Garlic powder
1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
1 Egg
1/2 Tablespoon Milk
1/4 cup Flour
1/2 cup butter-flavored Crisco
Pat the fish fillets dry with paper towels. Dredge the fish in flour, and shake off the excess. Mix the egg and milk in a bowl. In a separate bowl, mix the crackers and seasonings. Dip the fish in the egg mix, then in the cracker mix. In a frying pan, heat 1/2 cup butter-flavored Crisco to 425?? to 450??. Place the breaded fish in the oil, skin side up. Fry until golden brown.
Serves 4.
Night Fishing (registered campers only, lakes 6&7)
** No California State Fishing License required to fish at Padre Dam's Santee Lakes Recreation Preserve.
Fishing Permit Fees
Adult (ages 16 and over) $9.00 per day
Junior (ages 7 to 15) $6.00 per day
Second fishing pole stamp $4.00
*One child under 7 may fish for free with a paid adult
