In order to protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels, there is still a temporary ban on private water craft and equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment includes private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors and other equipment that contacts the water.

Lake Wohlford is offering $20 all day motorboats to seniors on Tuesdays and to active military on the first and third Saturdays of each month.

The fish are spreading out more and areas like Willow Cove and Oakvale Cove have improved considerably. The largest trout of the past week was an 11.45# behemoth caught by Tevita Asisi of Vista. Mr. Asisi was using chunk cheese powerbait dipped in garlic sauce and was fishing in Oakvale Cove. Sam Elsenbraun of Oceanside caught an 8.50# Trout also in Oakvale Cove on a powerworm and Andy Paz of Valley Center caught a 6.55# trout on powerbait along Senior Shoreline. The best fishing has been in the coves and rainbow and chunk cheese powerbaits along with inflated nightcrawlers have been the preferred baits.

A 2.15# Crappie was caught on Thursday by Mike Kostial of Oceanside on a gold Kastmaster in Boat Dock Cove. Crappie prefer cover and are most readily caught on finger jigs or live golden shiners.

We are still waiting on the bass to start biting in earnest. Bass can be found around structure and bite in the early mornings and late afternoons.
