There is an incredibly hot catfish spot. It is entrance to the east side Half Moon Cove. The angler average was 4 per angler and mackerel was the preferred bait.

This about 30 to 40 ft. deep, in keeping with prediction that the cats are on the move to deeper water. We can see shad schools dimpling on the surface but no bass crashing thru them on the surface. Dropshotting worms in 30 ft of water is the best bet.

Best Cat Spots:
Cloister Cove, Buoyline and the entrance to the east side Half Moon Cove.

Best Cat Bait:
Mackerel and chicken livers. Use scent liberally.

Best Bass Spots:
Sentry and Eagle Point.

Best Bass Lures/Bait: Dropshotting Arron's Magic or Morning Dawn 7" worms.

Water Temp:
79 degrees on surface

Notables:
Fri., Megan McDonald-Purcell, Guatay, 5-6 channel cat, mackerel, Cloister Cove.
Sat., Dustin Spina, El Cajon, 8-1 channel cat, Hermit Cove buoyline, mackerel

Prognosis:
Just because we no longer have night fishing, that the cats can't be caught. Historically the Fall is one of the best times to catch them because they tend to concentrate in deeper water.

Friday night's catfishing was very good. Saturday's was very poor. Go Figure! Bass fishing improved a tiny bit. Fishing on the points in 30 to 40 ft. with a dropshot 7" worm worked the best. If you fished for panfish you went home emptyhanded. Best Cat Spots: Half Moon Cove, Cloister and Siesta Coves. Best Cat Bait: Mackerel and Chicken livers. Use scent liberally. Best Bass Spots: Hermit Cove and they...... Read More
