Last Plant: 1,500 lbs of Rainbow Trout Wednesday March 9th.
Next Plant: 1,500 lbs of Rainbow Trout Wednesday March 23rd.
Water temperature: At surface 61.70 f., 11.30 D.O. @ 15' 56.12 f., 6.23 D.O.
Water level: Low level, private water craft are currently banned.

In order to protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels, there is still a temporary ban on private water craft and equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment includes private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors and other equipment that contacts the water.

Lake Wohlford is offering $20 all day motorboats* to seniors on Tuesdays and to active military on the first and third Saturdays of each month.*This rate applies to regular motor boat rentals, no Bass Boats, and no discounted  ? day rate.

The trout bite has slowed a bit and could be hampered by rain over the weekend. It should rebound however with the upcoming plant. Rex Blackman of Escondido had the largest trout of the past week, a 9.10# beauty caught west of Senior Shoreline on chartreuse powerbait. Ten year old Dylan Nyugen came in second with a 5.85# trout caught on a night crawler in Boat Dock Cove. The best location for trout has been the area just west of Senior Shoreline. The best baits have been powerbait and/or powerworms, greens or yellows are the most popular colors, or inflated nightcrawlers.

With the surface temperature of the water moving into the low sixties smaller bass (males) have been moving in to the shallows to build nests in anticipation of the spawn. This pre-spawn phase will be followed shortly by the spawn and the arrival of the larger females. The best baits for bass are swimbaits, shad raps, and dark colored plastics. They prefer rocky outcropping and bite most frequently in the early mornings and late afternoons.

Each month Whopper Contest winners in 4 categories are awarded a free fishing and boating permit. For further information on the contest or fishing conditions, please contact the Ranger Station at (760) 839-4346.
