Stocking: Catfish Opener is Memorial Day weekend where 1,500 pounds from Alpine Fishery will be stocked. A total of 8,500 pounds of catfish will be stocked this season. With catfish season comes night fishing! The lake will be open on Friday and Saturday until midnight beginning May 26th.

What’s the Catch? The trout bite hasn’t tapered with the unusually cool temps this month. They will continue to hit on powerbait and nightcrawlers until the water temps warm up to 72 degrees. Trout were biting at the t-dock and Siesta Cove this weekend. Bass were biting at all hours of the day this weekend. We saw bites from Siesta Point to Cloister Cove. Drop shot with a six-inch Roboworm is an effective set up in our lake. The best place to fish for Bluegill is Half Moon Cove where the fish have lots of vegetation along the shallow shoreline. When fishing for Bluegill, use 2-6 pound test and pinch a large split shot about 18” above the hook. Meal worms make the best bait, but they will bite on wax worms and a piece of nightcrawler too. Try using garlic nightcrawlers - the scent will attract more fish.

Conditions: The water temperature at the surface is currently 68 degrees and drops to 64 degrees around 30 feet deep. The aerator has been turned on for the season, so expect water temperatures to start equalizing regardless of depth. New Moon is on May 19th.  Bring sunscreen and water this weekend as temperatures turn more seasonal. Check out the local forecast below.
