Lake Wohlford Road is closed due to a slide caused by the storm. It is going to stay closed for a while for repairs to the hillside. The lake remains open. If you are trying to reach us from Escondido continue heading east on Bear Valley pkwy/Valley Center rd. past the closure and then use Woods Valley Road. which is on your right at the end of the Valley Center Grade then make another right when you reach Lake Wohlford Road.

In order to protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels there is a ban on private watercraft and equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment includes; private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contacts the water.

The trout bite has shut down due to the heavy staining caused by the storm. The bite should come back strong when the water clears. Big trout of the week belonged to John Lee who caught a 6.00# trout on a powerworm by the crappie float prior to the storm. As rainy conditions continue using bait that has scent on it improves your chances of success.

Catfish are not bothered by the muddy conditions. Kong Xiong of San Diego caught a 29.50# catfish in Oakvale using cut mackerel. Lake wohlford cats like chicken liver, mackerel, or shrimp and bite best at the west end.
