Permits and boat rentals are sold at the Ranger Station. Currently we are credit/debit only no cash transactions. We do not sell fishing licenses so anglers must acquire them elsewhere prior to their visit. The lake is offering $20 all day motor boats to seniors on Tuesdays and Thursdays and to active military every Saturday.

Construction began this past week on Oakvale Road in anticipation of the new dam being built. The current road alignment needs to be shifted to the south to provide room for the new dam. Oakvale Road remains open and the project is anticipated to take a year to complete.

In order to protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels there is a ban on private watercraft and equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment includes; private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contacts the water.

Catfish can be caught throughout the lake, but are particularly active at either end. Lake Wohlford cats are fond of chicken liver, shrimp, or cut mackerel. Stop by the ranger station for a dough-bait recipe that works well on both catfish and carp.

Largemouth bass gravitate toward structure. The bass prefer dark colored plastics, crawdads, and jerk-baits.

The crappie fishing has been slow. Crappie generally prefer the cover of shade and are caught most frequently on finger jigs or live golden shiners.

Each month Whopper Contest winners in four categories are awarded a free fishing and boating permit. For information on the contest or fishing conditions, please contact the Ranger Station at (760) 839-4346.

Catfish were planted yesterday about noon and the bite this morning is outstanding with some anglers limiting out by mid-morning. Boat Dock Cove and Senior Shoreline are doing well, as would be expected, due to their proximity to the where the fish got planted. Look for the fish to spread out as we move into next week. Lake Wohlford cats respond well to cut mackerel or chicken liver. The carp were actively spawning, again, during much of the past week....... Read More
