  • The Trout Opener was off to a great start this past weekend with over 1,000 visitors to the lake! Did you make it out? Anglers were reeling them in on lightweight mini jigs and powerbait. Pink Sparkle and Salmon Peach powerbait were the colors of choice!

  • We stocked 2,500 lbs. in preparation of opener and then we were surprised with an additional stocking of 500 lbs. from DFW!

  • Our next stocking of 1,500 lbs. will be the week of November 25th, Thanksgiving week. The lake will be open Thanksgiving Day 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Come on out and catch your limits just in time for Thanksgiving dinner!

  • Catfish are still being caught on chicken liver, mackerel and even on powerbait, which has surprised some of our trout fishermen. Best locations for cats right now are in Hermit Cove or Cloister Cove.

  • Looking for panfish? Try an inflated nightcrawler and see if you can reel in a dinner plate sized redear sunfish!

  • Did you know? Trout can rapidly change color, getting darker when being aggressive, lighter when being submissive or in response to changing background color.

  • Fishing Tip: Look for fish activity in the water. Watch the surface of the water -- you might see trout rising up to catch insects. You might even look for birds that are diving after smaller fish that trout also eat.

  • Joke from Ranger Earl: Where do you find most of the fish? Between the head and the tail!

  • New Moon Fishing on SaturdayNovember 23rd! The lake is open 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Full-sized lanterns required after 7:00 p.m.

  • Fish from the campground shoreline every day of the week! Purchase a lake fishing permit at the campground kiosk from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Nightcrawlers and some basic tackle can be purchased at the campground kiosk as well. Anglers may fish from Sentry Cove over to Eagle Point any day of the week!

  • Fishing kayaks are available for rent. They have multiple rod holders and water tight compartments. Children can kayak if their parent or legal guardian is also kayaking. Kayak rentals are $10/hour or $30/4 hours. Active duty military personnel may rent kayaks for $8/hour or $25/4 hours.

  • The weather right now is absolutely perfect for camping. We still have tent sites available for this weekend! Make your camping reservations today! Call (619) 390-1623 or visit our website www.lakejennings.org
