In order to protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels, there is still a
temporary ban on private water craft and private equipment that could have been
exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment now includes boats, canoes, kayaks, float
tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contacts the water.
Trout action has been very good with some nice limits of Rainbow Trout being taken.
Top Trout baits have been night crawlers, marshmallows, and white power worms. Best
Trout areas have been in Boat Dock Cove and in Willow Cove. Light line and small
hooks are a must for Trouting success. Four-pound test line or less and size #14 or
smaller treble hooks are recommended.
Bass conditions are ideal and yesterday was one of the most productive Bass bites of the year. Swim bait lures, crawdads, plastic worms, and live golden shiners are working best for the Bass now.
The Crappie have moved in tight to the bank and some nice stringers of the scrappy pan fish are coming in. Linh Nguyen of San Diego caught a 2#8 Crappie on a live Golden Shiner at the West Buoy Line. Donald Crain of San Diego caught a 1#5 Crappie on an Orange Kastmaster in Boat Dock Cove. Small golden shiners and finger jigs have been the preferred baits. The Bluegill have started to bite early this year and are hitting red worms in Oakvale Cove.
Carp action has also picked up dramatically. To view fish photos, visit our web site at www.wohlfordlake.com. Each month, Whopper Contest winners in four categories are awarded a free fishing and boating permit. For further information on the contest or fishing conditions, please contact the Ranger Station at (760) 839-4346.
