Catching the Spotligh

The trout are still bitting here at the lakes. Allan Villeneuve caught this 5 lbs. 13 oz. trout out of Lake 3. He caught it on a nightcrawler and Powerbait combo.
Our Catfish Season Opener is this weekend. Lakes 3 and 4 will be closed to all fishing on Friday March 31 to prepare for the event. The top 5 largest catfish this weekend will win prizes, so don't forget to take you biggest catfish to the General Store or to a ranger to get it officially weighed in.
The Largemouth Bass spawn is in full swing and many anglers are catching large fish. To prevent death or injury to these catch and release only fish, please send your name and photo to if nlobaugh@padre.org you would like a chance to be in our weekly fish report. We discourage keeping these fish out of the water longer than necessary to take a few photos.

Lake Lowdown

Avg. Water Temp: 67.3°F
Water Clarity: 2 ft.

Trout bite has slowed down a bit but the Largemouth bite has greatly improved. Trout are still being caught primarily on Powerbait. I’m getting reports of bass being caught on Lakes 1 and 5.
