Last Plant: 3,000 lbs of Channel Catfish Friday July 1st.
Next Plant: 1,000 lbs of Channel Catfish Friday July 22nd.
Water temperature: At surface 76.64 f., 4.32 D.O. @ 10’ 77.72 f., 4.07 D.O.
Water level: Low level, private water craft are currently banned.

To protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels, there is still a ban on private water craft and equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment includes private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contacts the water.

Lake Wohlford is offering $20 all day motor boats to seniors on Tuesdays and Thursdays and to active military on the first and third Saturdays of each month.

Last Saturday’s derby was a big success and our congratulations go out to Celine Neumann who was our grand prize winner, and to all the other winners and participants in this year’s derby. The prize winning catfish weighed 6.00#s even and was the first fish weighed in on Saturday. We appreciate the remarkable turnout and would like to thank our sponsors Bass Pro Shops and the City of Escondido. We can’t wait until next year to do it again, hopefully, even bigger and better.

Catfish are being caught throughout the lake with limits being recorded before lunch in Oakvale Cove and Boat Dock Cove. The best baits for catfish are cut mackerel or chicken liver. Stop by the ranger station for a dough-bait recipe that works wonders on catfish as well as carp.

The bass bite has been spotty, but with the re-appearance of shad in tight to the shore that might change. Brian Boyd of Oceanside caught and released a 6.80# bass he caught on a spinner bait in Boat Dock Cove. Small to medium sized bass can be found around structure. They respond well to crawdads, shad raps, and dark colored plastics.

Each month Whopper Contest winners in four categories are awarded a free fishing and boating permit. For information on the contest or fishing conditions, please contact the Ranger Station at (760) 839-4346.
