Lake Conditions- Surface temperature is 53.4 @ 20ft. Water visibility is at about 2' to 3" Lake gauge is at 84'7". ** IMPORTANT NOTE** There are currently no state fishing licenses available in the Lake Morena area so be sure you acquire one before you arrive. The State Licenses is required.


Trout- The Escondido Senior Angler group have been testing their skills this last week and have been catching a fair amount of Trout. The Senior Anglers caught two Trout over 7 pounds, three over 6 pounds, four over 5 pounds, and several more between 2.5 and 4 pounds. Largest Trout was a 7pound, 5 ounce caught by Bob Tyler an Escondido Senior Angler.


Bass - Dennis Apodaca from Santee caught a Bass 9 pounds and 34 ounces. A member of the Senior Anglers caught a 7 pound Bass.

Catfish - Many catfish have been caught this week. Senior Anglers caught about 25.

Blue Gill - Blue Gill is still slow.

Crappie -Crappie is still slow

Carp - Senior Anglers caught about 10 Carp.


Boat Launch conditions: Boat launching is open for private boats. The speed limit on land and water is 10mph. Before launch all boats will be inspected for quagga. Boats must be CLEAN and DRY. If you do not pass inspection you will not be able to launch for that day. The launch fees are $8.00 per day. Motorboats, kayaks, canoes, float tubes and sailboards must pay fee.


The lake is open daily for fishing and boating. Park hours for fishing and day use are roughly from sunrise to sunset. No swimming at Lake Morena Park. Motorboats and rowboats are available for rent 7 days a week. Motorboats rent for $30 M-F and $50 S-S. No reservations taken on boats. Fishing permits M-F for Adults $5.00, Youth age 10 to15 $2.00, Seniors 62+ $3.00. Weekends and Holidays for Adults $7.00, Youth $3.00, Seniors $5.00.

Reservations for camping may be made @ 858-565-3600

South Shore Campground: Reservations are recommended for camping at the main campground on the South Shore. This campground offers partial hookup sites (water and electric), as well as several developed sites. The main restroom offers hot showers and flush toilets, and is handicapped accessible. Lake Morena dump station is currently-OPEN.

North Shore Primitive Campground: This campground is closed until further notice.
