GENERAL CONDITIONS

First off everyone here at Lake Del Valle wants to say our hearts go out to everyone here in California that are being affected by these wildfires. Our prayers are with you all.

The weather this week has been beautiful, fall patterns for temperature and winds have started. Early mornings are cold in the mid 40s to low 50s rising to about the low 70s at mid day. The water temperature took a rapid decrease as the surface temperature is sitting at 62 degrees this week. Fishing has been excellent this week with many anglers hooking up into nice fish. The hot bite this week is still catfish.

CATFISH

For catfish most anglers have been fishing in the upper narrows and out towards the dam. Find cover in the water either fallen trees or rock walls. A few catfish have been caught out of the deep water channels as well. The best baits to use would be either night crawlers or anchovies, with the water cooling off, I would also recommend trying cut sardines.

TROUT

We have received our first two Mt. Lassen Trout plants of the year, one on 10/02/17 and 10/09/17; both were 1000 LBS. The water still might be a little warm in the shallows for them I would recommend fishing in about 10-20 feet of water. I would try smaller spinners or jigging a small Kastmaster. You might be able to catch them on garlic power bait or mice tails as well.

BLACK BASS

Black Bass are a good target this time of year, most anglers like to use soft plastics (swim baits, robo worms, Senkos, etc.) I would also recommend using either a crank bait or a top water lure (Heddon Spook, pencil poppers, etc.) Look for fallen trees, rocky points and tule patches.

STRIPED BASS

Stripers are biting well this week with more anglers telling me they've hooked up from fishing boils early morning around 8-11 and in the evening from 3-5. If you see a boil and are able to make a cast best lures would be smaller top water lures (Heddon Spooks, Lucky Craft Sammys, etc). Other than that you can get them sitting bait, most anglers have been using anchovies and chicken liver.
