DELTA

Inclement weather conditions recently have caused the sturgeon and striped bass to have lock jaw. Presently the water temperatures are holding in the 50 degree range. As soon as the weather conditions stabilize  the Delta fishing will bust wide open. There have been reports of a few striped bass coming out of 30 ft plus depths ranging in weight from 12 to 27 pounds taken in the Benicia area on live split tails or whole herring. On the San Joaquin River side of the Delta the action has been sparse with only a few legal stripers being reported off of the flats near Eddo’s Harbor and False River with the big fish weighing about 5 pounds.

PARDEE LAKE

A recent release of 1000 pounds of rainbow trout is providing those fishing from the shoreline the best action. Shoreline anglers taking some  nice trout weighing up to 2.5 pounds near the launch ramp. and the Narrows.

SAN LUIS RESERVOIR

The striped bass action has been solid when the weather cooperates. Field scouts report there are tons of 4 to 5 pound being caught from the shoreline with Zoom Magnum flukes in the white ice or smoky shad color patterns, Duo Realis jerkbaits or Lucky Craft Pointers. Most of the anglers fishing the impoundment plugging instead of trolling right now. The reservoir depths are falling very rapidly at almost a foot a day due to the heavy pumping out of the south Delta. It is presently at 76% of capacity.

CAMANCHE LAKE

This past week 1200 pounds of Mt. Lassen trout were planted at the north Shore launch ramp. The bank fishermen are having the best action using trout dough bait, nightcrawlers or Kastmasters. The water clarity is relatively clear despite the recent rains. The lake is at 72% of capacity.

SAN PABLO BAY

Striped bass and sturgeon action has been fairly good in San Pablo Bay when the weather conditions are favorable. If you are planning on fishing this part of the bay, be sure to take some extra bait with you due to the bait stealing juvenile crabs that infest this section of the bay.

 LOS VAQUEROS RESERVOIR

The trout fishing action has been very good during this time period at Los Vaqueros Reservoir. Most of the action has been off the shoreline using Powerbait and nightcrawlers over in the south cove and past the Rockwall. Some of the trout have been weighing more than 4 pounds. The reservoir is presently storing 149,000 acre feet of water. The water temperature is 57 degrees with fair water clarity.

Take time to enjoy the great outdoors. Until next tide stay safe to fish another day.
