Permit and Boat Rentals are sold at the Ranger Station. At present, we do not sell fishing licenses, bait, or tackle, so anglers must acquire these essential items elsewhere prior to their visit. All day motor boats are discounted to $20 for seniors on Tuesday and Thursdays and for active military every Saturday.

Due to the threat of Quagga mussels, there is a ban on private water craft and equipment. Restricted equipment includes; private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contacts the water.

Catfish are being caught throughout the lake. Elliot Berquist of Escondido caught an 8.40# catfish on cut mackerel near the South Shore Rock Pile. Lake Wohlford cats prefer cut mackerel or chicken liver. Stop by the ranger station to pick up a dough-bait recipe that works well for both catfish and carp.

Largemouth bass can be found lurking around structure. Jay Person of Costa Mesa caught and released a 9.30# bass Saturday using a sweet beaver east of the South Shore Rock Pile. Bass respond well to shad raps, frogs, and dark colored plastics.

Crappie are being caught in Boat Dock Cove and by boaters trolling for them. Crappie prefer cover and are most often caught using finger jigs or live golden shiners.

Each month Whopper Contest winners in four categories are awarded a free fishing and boating permit. For information on the contest or fishing conditions, please contact the Ranger Station at (760) 839-4346.
