Catching the Spotlight

Another great week of fishing. We had reports of every species we have in the lakes being caught. Bill Milliron (right) caught this great mixed stringer of catfish and trout on Friday. He was fishing shrimp and mackerel in Lake 4. Andres Campos (left) caught this 5lbs bass out of Lake 6. He caught it on a bluegill crank bait.

Saturday April 22nd will be the Lions Club’s 16th annual Kids Fishing Derby. The event will be at 6:30AM to 11:30AM and it will be held at the south shore of Lake 4. Awards will be given out and a BBQ will be held after the award ceremony. Children 15 and under will fish for free from 7:00AM to 11:AM!!! Registration is due April 21st and can be sent to PO Box 1812 Spring Valley, Ca 91971 or dropped off at the Santee Lakes General Store. For more information call Bill Paxton: (619)504-9518.

Lake lowdown

Avg. Water Temp: 70.4°F
Water Clarity:6 ft.

The catfish have been biting very well this week. Many anglers are reporting shrimp as the best bait to use. Mackerel has been a productive catfish bait as well. The bass bite is still very good. The water clarity has improved allowing anglers to sight fish for big bass.
